  • Fin whales
  • False killer whales

  • Orca  or killer whales
  • Sperm whales
  • Pygmy right whales
  • Pygmy sperm whales
  • Bryde’s whales

You may also encounter Sharks; including Hammerheads, Sea Turtles, Seals, Little Penguins (Fairy Penguins) and a wide variety of Sea Birds including Petrels, Albatross, and Mutton Birds while on a whale watch cruise from Port Stephens on MV Hammerhead.

Our crew strictly observe the National Parks and Wildlife rules in relation to approaching whales, however we often find that while we keep to the prescribed distance that the whales approach the vessel. We have had whales within a few metres of the vessel when whale watching off Port Stephens. It is an amazing, unforgettable experience to see a whale up close and personal. The sheer size of these gentle animals has to be experienced.
